Sometimes due to circumstances out of our control, like an airline suspending a flight, we are forced to cancel a flight. If this occurs, we will contact you immediately. However, if you find that you cannot fly and need to cancel your eDreams booking, what should you do about it? Today we will answer this question and any doubts you may have when it comes to the eDreams cancellation policy.

Cancellation and Refunds

Q: Can I cancel a booking once the ticket has been issued? Can I ask for a refund?

A: Refunds for cancelled tickets are given at the discretion of the airline on which you were due to fly. This can vary depending on the price you paid for that particular flight. Generally the lower the price, the higher the cancellation penalties. Unfortunately, the majority of low cost airlines do not offer refunds if you want to cancel a ticket.

If the airline does have a refund policy, they most likely will charge extra for this type of service. Similarly, eDreams applies an administration fee for cancellations (on top of the fee charged by the airline). This extra charge varies depending on the type of service option you’ve selected during the booking process:

  • If you selected a flight with free cancellation: you have to cancel the flight within the given time period in order to receive the full refund.
  • If no service option was selected but the airline agrees to a full or partial refund: eDreams takes a fee of €25.

Q: How do I cancel my flight or get a refund?

A: To cancel your flight, login to Manage My Booking using your booking reference number and email address. Otherwise, please contact us as soon as possible. You will need to provide your booking reference, so be sure to have it on hand. We will prioritize flights that are scheduled to depart within the next 7 days.

Once you have informed us of your need to cancel the flight, we will process the refund and send you an e-mail letting you know how much will be credited to the card you used to purchase the tickets. This credit will be automatic, however, every refund is different and depends on the type of ticket and the airline. If we need to contact the airline for a refund authorization it may take up to three months to be able to process the refund.

Q: What happens if the airline cancels my flight? Can I get a refund?

If the airline cancels your flight, then the airline should offer either an alternative flight or a full refund. To know your options, please contact us for further details. If your flight is cancelled due to the bankruptcy of the airline, then procedures will vary depending on the type of airline and the country where the airline is based.

Q: How long does it take to get a refund from an airline?

The standard time for airline refunds is 90 days after the first request. Please note that in times of force majeure, such as the coronavirus pandemic, waiting times may be longer due to the high volume of requests.

Q: Is my hotel booking refundable?

Hotel refunds depend on the hotel you’ve booked with. Contact us to find out if your hotel booking is refundable.

Q: Why have I only received a partial refund for my booking?

Refunds may be done partially if your booking is with different companies eg. different airlines or an airline and a hotel. This is because we work as intermediaries between you the customer and the airline/hotel,  and we might receive your refund from the third party at different times.

Q: How can I cancel my car rental?

To check your car rental, please login to your account here.

Tip #1: Purchase the Cancel for Any Reason Guarantee with your next ticket

Add this option onto your next booking. It will ensure that you get back 80% of the total price paid for the ticket, in the case that you need to cancel your booking. Cancellations can be done up to 24 hours before the departure of the flight.

Tip #2: Claim the taxes back on non-refundable tickets

If your ticket is non-refundable, please ask a customer service representative if you can claim some or all of the taxes charged when you bought your ticket.

Tip #3: Select a flight that has free cancellation

When searching for a flight, you’ll notice that some flights have a free cancellation option. When you purchase these flights, there is a grace period in which you can cancel your booking for free if you change your mind.

Tip #4: Choose a ticket with free rebooking

Many of our tickets include free rebooking thanks to our agreements with airlines. For all others, our Flexible Travel Dates service including COVID-19 cover is available to protect your trip.
